XP is NOT modern/smart enough to use any other device than a floppy drive/disk to load the drivers during the install. Install the AHCI/chipset drivers during the install. however, given the potential for modern PC hardware to be incompatible with XP, it may be your best option (IF you really must install XP directly to the hardware). This is the easy way out, but it pretty much turns off everything about your SATA drive that makes SATA better than IDE/ATA. You also realize that XP will be a potential security nightmare in April when Microsoft kicks it to the curb, right?Ĭhange SATA Operation in the BIOS Setup (F2) to ATA/Compatibility instead of AHCI. Given that there are very few legit reasons to install XP anymore, I'm curious as to why you "have" to and virtualization can't be used.
